The Board of Selectmen on April 1 voted to dissolve a set of inactive town committees and took procedural votes to open and later close the annual town meeting warrant for submission to the Advisory & Finance Committee.
The list of committees to be made inactive includes the Tennis Committee, Cable TV Advisory Committee, Coast Guard Design and Development Committee, Nahant Alternative Energy Committee, Green Community Committee, and the Nahant Fire Station Architectural Assessment Committee. The vote to dissolve these committees was presented as housekeeping related to the town‑meeting warrant and carried by roll call.
Board members also noted two changes to the town meeting warrant: a minor revision to Article 21, the wireless communication zoning bylaw (punctuation and an added sentence on where the bylaw may be reviewed), and a new Article 22 to amend general police and personnel bylaws by replacing references to "Board of Selectmen" or "Selectmen" with the wording "Select Board." The chair noted Article 22 follows a charter change approved at last year's town meeting and therefore, as a bylaw change, would take effect if approved at town meeting without needing to go to the town election.
The board voted to send the warrant to Advisory & Finance for review and to present the committee list and bylaw changes at the upcoming annual town meeting.
