Eric Olsen, chair of the Sandown Board of Selectmen, read a resignation letter at the board’s May 18 meeting from the town clerk and tax collector announcing she will step down effective May 18, 2026, citing health reasons.
In the letter, read aloud by Olsen, the clerk wrote, “I am writing to officially announce my resignation from the position of town clerk tax collector for the town of Sandown effective 05/18/2026,” and said the decision followed ongoing health issues and a need to prioritize her family and well‑being. The letter said her term would have concluded in March 2027 and that she is “committed to ensuring a smooth transition.”
Board members reacted with sympathy and praise. A selectman said the clerk had done a “terrific job” and another noted the group had been emotional during a prior nonpublic discussion about her health. The board did not announce an immediate appointment at the meeting; members said they will work together to manage the office and the transition.
The resignation will require administrative steps to maintain continuity for tax collection and clerk functions. At the May 18 meeting the board did not set a public recruitment timetable or name an interim; Olsen encouraged staff coordination and confirmed the board will address next steps at upcoming meetings.
The selectmen moved on to other agenda items after expressing thanks and wishing the clerk well.
