Krause also reported that a candidate has been interviewed and is finishing MCOLES written and physical testing. If the candidate passes, staff may extend a conditional offer and use available grant funding to cover academy tuition and related costs. Discussion touched on academy tuition (about $8,500), available grant funding (about $20,000), overtime considerations and the at-will employment status of officers. Committee members noted mutual aid provided by the Berrien County Sheriff, Pokagon Tribal Police and Michigan State Police at no direct cost to the village.
