Committee Chair Lisa Wingo called the Community Day Event Committee meeting to order at 5:38 p.m. on Feb. 27, 2025, and members approved the agenda.
The committee reviewed last year’s Holiday PJ Party and agreed that attendees enjoyed the selfie station, snacks and movies but turnout was lower than hoped; members recommended improving advertising for next year. Jenny Wyatt proposed creating an unofficial, nonpolitical events page titled “Houston DE Happenings” to post local events such as fire company activities, auxiliary events, council meetings and committee programming. The committee endorsed the idea for the page as a centralized way to list community events.
Members set the calendar for several 2025 events and assigned tasks. The committee scheduled an Easter Egg Hunt for April 12, 2025, at 10 a.m. with age groups 0–3, 4–6 and 7–11; the minutes record that Julia Ellerbusch will look at Oriental Trading for hunt items and Lisa Wingo will contact Actors Attic about a bunny costume. Community Day is scheduled for Aug. 16, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Councilwoman Robin Adkins said she will contact a band to confirm availability, and members discussed hiring a DJ to make announcements and distributing flyers early to advertise the parade and event. The committee also penciled in a Fall Festival for Oct. 11, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and a Holiday PJ Party for Dec. 12, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The minutes record procedural actions: Jenny Wyatt moved to approve the meeting agenda, Julia Ellerbusch seconded and the motion carried; at the end of the meeting Jenny Wyatt moved to adjourn at 6:20 p.m., Robin Adkins seconded and that motion also carried. No members of the public were recorded as present or participating at the meeting.
Next steps recorded in the minutes include Wyatt creating event flyers and a donation form to solicit business donations, Ellerbusch sourcing Easter-hunt items, Wingo arranging a bunny costume and Adkins contacting potential musical performers. Committee members noted that more active advertising is needed to increase attendance at future events.
