Houston council tables finance reports, refers recreational marijuana sales to Charter & Codes Committee

At its Feb. 6, 2025 meeting, the Town of Houston council removed two consent-agenda items from the consent list and tabled them until March 2025 while updates are prepared.

Vice Mayor Tina King moved to remove the Finance, Revenue & Expenditures report and the Tax Collector Report from the consent agenda; Councilwoman Robin Adkins seconded and the motion carried. Mayor Gregory Wingo explained the finance statement is being corrected for an error and that the tax report is being updated to include recently received tax payments; both items are to be brought back at the March meeting.

The council approved the remaining consent agenda items on a motion by Councilman Dave Mutter, seconded by Councilwoman Robin Adkins.

Under old business, Mayor Wingo said he had contacted the parties requested regarding Railroad Avenue and had faxed materials they requested. Councilwoman Robin Adkins circulated a report on secure email addresses and tablets that included equipment and service fees; Town Solicitor James Sharp suggested she contact DTI for assistance. That IT item was tabled until the March 2025 meeting. Mayor Wingo said the proposed fee schedule is not yet complete. On hazard mitigation, the county is updating its plan; Mayor Wingo said he will set a meeting with council to incorporate county information, with a booklet expected in June or July.

On code enforcement, Mayor Wingo confirmed residents are permitted one unregistered vehicle in their yard and that violations will be enforced under the town charter.

Under new business, Mayor Wingo said discussion on recreational marijuana sales in town will be sent to the Charter & Codes Committee for review.
