Algood reports budget tweaks, fire-department promotions and community safety events

City Administrator Mr. Morrison reported budget adjustments and staff activity during the council meeting, and the Fire Department announced promotions and upcoming community-safety events.
Mr. Morrison said the budget amendments include actuarial changes for state retirement and increased sanitation repair lines after trucks exceeded repair accounts. He told council the city is adding $25,000 to each sanitation repair line for affected trucks and listed a total general-fund change of $92,900 in meeting materials; he emphasized that most adjustments had already been absorbed and that revenues remain positive.
On grants, Mr. Morrison said the fire-department grant was recorded as $27,000 in revenue and $27,000 in capital outlay so the net effect is zero; he said staff completed the grant requirements in time for the end-of-February deadline to keep accounting records accurate for audit.
Fire Department leadership introduced promotions: Nick PLO was promoted to captain and medical captain and described as a paramedic; Lieutenants Mitchell Beverly, Dakota Wolford and Jeremy Bowman were also promoted after a multi-step selection process (letters of intent, scenarios and a promotional board). The chief invited the community to welcome the promoted officers.
The Fire Department also announced two public-safety events: a March 29 canvass, with volunteers and Putnam County Fire, to install smoke detectors in pre-selected neighborhoods, and a free CPR class on April 9 at Algood City Hall. Flyers and social media posts will provide registration details.
Public Works reported 559 work orders in February and asked for patience as crews remove storm debris and address potholes created by recent storms. Police reported 838 calls, 96 traffic stops and 28 citations for the month. During public comment a resident thanked staff for work on the White Pl school project; the council tabled further action on the White Pl's historic-home item for more study.
Next steps: staff will follow up on budget bookkeeping and grant closeout documentation; the Fire Department will run the canvassing and CPR class as announced. The historic-home item will be studied further before returning to the council agenda.
