Students demonstrate Socratic seminars; FHS student council outlines fundraising calendar

At the Dec. 9 Fraser Board meeting Eisenhower Elementary staff demonstrated student Socratic seminars used in ELA and Fraser High School Student Council President Angelina Apel outlined fall and winter activities including an Activities Auction and Charity Week with a $10,000 goal to benefit the Fraser VFW.
At the Fraser Board of Education regular meeting Dec. 9, Eisenhower Elementary staff described classroom use of Socratic seminars and students demonstrated a collaborative circle based on the book The Cay.
School psychologist Olivia Celletti and sixth-grade teacher Natalie Urick told the board that the Socratic seminar (also called a collaborative circle) gives students a structured, safe way to share opinions during ELA and to submit written responses when preferred. A group of students provided an in-meeting example of a circle on The Cay by Theodore Taylor.
Fraser High School Student Council Executive Board President Angelina Apel updated the board on student activities: a Thanksgiving boat regatta that already occurred, a door-decorating contest and a spirit week ahead of winter break, an Activities Auction fundraiser set for Jan. 31 at the Vintage House to raise funds for all FHS classes, and Charity Week scheduled for Feb. 28—Mar. 7, 2025 with fundraising to benefit the Fraser VFW and a stated $10,000 goal.
The board also recognized departmental Students of the Year for the Science and English departments (Jackson Sines and Amber Masinick). The student presentations and council update were informational items and no board action was required.
