Oconee County Council approves transfer of Upcountry Fiber’s fixed wireless assets to Net Doctors

Oconee County Council authorized the transfer of Upcountry Fiber, LLC’s remaining fixed wireless assets to Net Doctors during its Jan. 21 meeting after receiving legal and operational explanations from county staff and counsel.
County Attorney David Root told council that the transfer request requires Council approval before County Administrator signature. Councilmembers asked about service parity between wireless and wired connections; Mr. Root and County Administrator Amanda F. Brock said the affected customers have historically been served via wireless connections and that the terrain and parcel easements necessary to provide wired connections were not obtainable. Ms. Brock added that wireless service is within Net Doctors’ area of expertise and they provide similar services elsewhere in the county.
Councilmember John Elliott moved to approve the transfer, Councilmember Thomas James seconded, and the motion passed 5–0. The approval authorized the County Administrator to sign the necessary documents to effect the transfer.
