The Buford City Commission on May 4 approved rezoning case Z-26-11 for parcels at 4702 Friendship Road to enable construction of a proposed 45,000-square-foot church. Nathan Harbison presented the application and said the primary entrance will be through an easement behind the existing QuikTrip store. No opposition spoke during the public hearing.
The commission’s approval includes conditions intended to preserve ordinance standards while accommodating a religious facility. Conditions allow a decorative architectural steeple to exceed the maximum building height limit as illustrated in the submitted exterior elevations, permit materials and limited cornice adjustments for architectural goals, and require the final site plan to comply with the Buford Zoning Ordinance and Development Regulations with Planning Director approval. All other portions of the structure must comply with height limitations in Section 1401.
The motion to approve passed unanimously (Ayes 3, Nays 0). The Planning Department will review final design and site-plan details before issuance of any permits or certificates of occupancy.
