Superintendent reports: MDE ELL audit finds zero findings; district compliant with CJIS audit; Section 31aa opt-in pending court ruling

Superintendent Jason J. Kennedy updated the Fruitport Community Schools Board on multiple administrative items at the Dec. 8 meeting, reporting positive audit results and a pending state decision on a funding opt-in.
Kennedy told the board the Michigan Department of Education’s English Language Learner audit returned "zero (0) findings" and that no areas were identified as "change required" on the district’s Title III compliance plan. Kennedy praised staff members Allison Camp, Kelly Whittaker and the district’s principals for their work supporting the audit.
He also reported that the Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) on-site audit of the district’s criminal history records processes conducted Nov. 4, 2025 found the district to be compliant and "in good standing." Kennedy further confirmed the district submitted the State School Aid Act Section 31aa opt-in questionnaire and received confirmation from the Michigan Department of Education; the district will wait for expected court rulings on Dec. 19, 2025 before determining whether to rescind acceptance of any Section 31aa funds.
The board acknowledged the reports; no formal action was taken on these items during the meeting.
