Oconee County Council fills multiple advisory, zoning and library board seats; one appointment sees an abstention

Oconee County Council on Jan. 7 filled several board and commission seats, re‑appointing incumbents and naming new members across advisory panels.
Agriculture Advisory Board: Council appointed Nathaniel Duncan as the District II representative and Gary Wilson as the District IV representative. Charlie Whiten was re‑appointed as District V representative. The council also appointed David McMahan as an at‑large representative; that appointment passed 4–0 with John Elliott abstaining. Elliott stated he does not believe former county employees or county council members should serve on boards or commissions.
Board of Zoning Appeals: Gwen Fowler was re‑appointed as the District II representative; Jason Cox was appointed as District IV representative; Timothy Mays was re‑appointed as District V representative; and Wayne McCall was appointed as at‑large representative. The Wayne McCall appointment passed 4–0 with John Elliott abstaining.
Library Board: Council re‑appointed Paul Holcombe as an at‑large representative and appointed Mandy Ferguson, Kim Jackson, Vicky Smith, Kay Knapp and Judy Adams to at‑large seats. These appointments were approved without recorded dissent.
Chair Matthew Durham noted that further board and commission appointments remain scheduled for the next two council meetings. The appointments are recorded in the meeting minutes; the minutes do not include biographies or term lengths for each appointee, which are filed with the county’s board records.
