Police Chief Ryan Layman told the council April 11 that the department handled 54 calls during the previous month and that volunteers and officials signed 220 support letters to be included in a joint grant application for a proposed new police station.
Chief Ryan thanked those who signed and returned the letters. He said the letters collected from Michiana and Grand Beach will be submitted with the grant application the two villages have jointly prepared.
No formal vote was taken on the grant during the meeting; the report was entered into the record and the council acknowledged receipt.
