Michiana council approves 2025–26 budget on first reading, 4–0

The Village of Michiana council approved the 2025–2026 budget on first reading during its May 9 meeting, voting 4–0 in favor.
Council President Tim McCarthy took a roll call for the first reading and the councilmembers voted to approve the budget. Treasurer Tracey McCay said residents who want to see the budget may make an appointment to review it in the Village office.
Council also approved several routine financial items. A motion led by Tim McCarthy and seconded by Brian Cassidy authorized the treasurer to roll over a maturing certificate of deposit at 1st Source only if the renewed rate meets or exceeds a 3.5% floor; that motion passed. Council approved the submitted check register for $48,560.77 after a motion by Mike Botelho and a second from Mike Mumper.
The council did not discuss detailed line-item changes on the record; Treasurer Tracey McCay described account pooling done at auditors’ direction and provided the Pokagon Fund balance of $47,661.
