Council approves community survey; public safety building to get separate later survey

The Village of Michiana Council approved the Planning Task Force’s community survey on Dec. 13 and set distribution plans and response timing for early 2025.
Mike Botelho reported the Planning Task Force — with Julie Bonello, Kathleen and Karen and consultant Marcy from Southwest — has drafted the first survey. The council approved moving forward: the survey will be mailed with January water bills and will include a survey code linking residents to an online SurveyMonkey; responses were requested by either Feb. 7 or Feb. 14. Clerk Anne Heywood was asked to send weekly reminders to encourage participation.
Councilmember Mike Mumper urged that questions about a proposed public safety building be handled by a separate survey distributed later (and earlier in the calendar year than mid-June) so exploration and planning on the building can proceed without delay; the council agreed that the public safety building survey should be separate.
The council authorized the survey distribution by motion (Mike Botelho, seconded by Brian Cassidy) and approved the approach unanimously.
