Michiana council approves water contract with Grand; EPA study required for Creek water project

The Village of Michiana council on April 11 approved a water contract with the Village of Grand and asked the clerk to forward the agreement to Grand Beach for their consideration.
Council member Tim McCarthy moved to approve the contract and Mike Botelho seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The clerk was instructed to send the contract to Grand Beach so they may vote at their next council meeting.
Separately, council members received a status update on the Creek water project. Council member Mike Mumper reported the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requires a National Historic Preservation Study before the project may proceed to the next phase. The village has contracted Orbis to prepare that study; Orbis will submit its findings to the project engineers as part of the package the engineers will send to the EPA for review ahead of a formal bid process.
Council members did not set a public vote or timeline for the next phase beyond directing staff and consultants to complete the EPA-required documentation.
The clerk will transmit the approved water contract to Grand Beach and staff will track Orbis’s study and subsequent EPA review.
