Mendon planners say land division, survey needed before farm biofuel special-use permit

The Mendon Township Planning Commission said at its Oct. 15 meeting that a proposed Farm Biofuel Production Facility application must clear preliminary property requirements before the commission can consider a special-use permit.
Chairperson Kline told the commission the property will need to be divided, surveyed and assigned a parcel identification number; those administrative steps must be completed before the commission can take up a Special Use application. Kline emphasized that while the applicant has requested expedited handling, “these things need to happen first” before formal review can resume.
Commissioner McClish said he had no questions about the procedural requirement and added he is “curious to see an operation like this up and running,” but no technical details, permits or operational plans were presented at the meeting. The commission did not vote on any permit or application related to the facility during the session.
Next steps identified by the commission were limited to the administrative prerequisites: completing the land division survey and obtaining a parcel ID. Once those tasks are finished, the applicant is expected to return for consideration of a Special Use permit and any associated public-notice steps.
