The Fruitport Board discussed concerns that students have been required to participate in academic-related events scheduled on Sundays. The board directed the Student Affairs Committee to develop guidelines and protocols for mandatory Sunday events, and encouraged the superintendent to consult building principals and district leaders before bringing recommendations back. The Student Affairs Committee is expected to begin discussion in January 2026.
Superintendent Jason Kennedy also reported that Verizon representatives contacted the district to explore leasing property near the Transportation and Maintenance Garage for a potential cell tower intended to improve coverage in that area. Kennedy said he will continue conversations with Verizon and collect additional details about lease terms and site implications for the board to review.
No formal board action on Sunday-event policy or a Verizon lease was taken at the Nov. 17 meeting; both items were referred for further committee or staff work.
