Fraser Board adopts budget amendment, new courses and unlimited School of Choice

The Fraser Board of Education on Jan. 27 adopted the first budget amendment for the 2024–25 general fund, approved several new course offerings for Richards Middle School and Fraser High School, and authorized unlimited School of Choice for the 2025–26 school year.
On a motion by board member Daniel Stawinski, supported by Todd Koch, the board adopted the recommended first budget amendment for 2024–25. Business Manager Andrea Agrusa was listed in the meeting materials in connection with the financial report; the board subsequently voted to accept and file the district financial report.
The board approved new middle-school classes to take effect in 2025–26: 2-D Art and 3-D Art at Richards Middle School, and an Advanced Physical Education elective for eighth graders that requires a B or higher in Boys'/Girls' PE. Those motions were moved by Daniel Stawinski and supported by Robyn Norbeck and carried with unanimous votes from members present.
The board also approved a Fraser High School Hybrid Introduction to Sports Officiating course, moved by Stawinski and supported by Kathleen Moco. The course description on the agenda said students would learn to officiate volleyball and basketball plus one additional sport of their choosing and would be eligible for Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) certification to work at school games.
In a separate motion, Vice President Todd Koch, supported by Robyn Norbeck, moved to approve unlimited School of Choice for Young 5s through grade 11 for the 2025–26 school year; that motion also passed unanimously. The board did not set caps or further enrollment conditions in the meeting minutes.
All motions recorded in the minutes were approved "Ayes: All, Nays: None." Abigail Wasil was noted as absent at roll call.
The meeting packet included a Building & Site committee update on Bid Pack 11, a planned remodel at Fraser High School to create a multipurpose athletic room by reconfiguring a health science classroom and a north-end dance studio; the packet said the iEATS program's café would relocate into the school's café area to ease scheduling conflicts.
The board adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
