Fruitport Community Schools bond certified after county canvass; district outlines next steps

The Fruitport Community Schools Board of Education on Nov. 17 was informed that the district's Nov. 4 bond proposal was officially certified by the county canvasses. Superintendent Jason Kennedy said the combined canvass for Muskegon and Ottawa Counties recorded 2,980 "yes" votes and 2,614 "no" votes, a 366-vote margin, and that the district received a congratulatory letter from Dr. Sue Carnell, Interim State Superintendent, Michigan Department of Education.
Kennedy told the board the Bond Team met Nov. 11 to begin planning implementation and community outreach. He said the district has scheduled school visits and site tours on Nov. 25, 2025 and Dec. 8, 2025 to review facilities and inform next steps for project planning and communication with residents.
The board did not take additional formal action on bond expenditures at the Nov. 17 meeting. Kennedy said staff will continue technical planning and will bring specific project and timeline recommendations to the board for future approval.
