The Punta Gorda City Council on July 1 adopted resolutions setting tentative special assessment levies for three maintenance districts and a lot‑mowing program and scheduled final public hearings for Sept. 9, 2026.
Kristen Simeone, finance director, said the Burnt Store Isles canal maintenance tentative assessment is $1,350 per single‑family parcel, a $25 increase from the prior year; for other properties, the assessment rate is 10.8 cents per square foot for land within 120 lineal feet of the seawall. Punta Gorda Isles canal maintenance tentative assessment was set at $1,500 per single‑family lot, a $150 increase; other properties are assessed at 15.6 cents per square foot within the relevant distance. The mandatory lot‑mowing assessment was set at $285, unchanged from the prior year.
Each resolution authorizes the property appraiser to mail notice of the tentative assessment and to publish the date, time and place of the public hearing for final adoption. Council approved each resolution by motion and voice vote; staff confirmed notices will be published in the newspaper and posted to the city website and weekly reports.
Next steps: property owners may appear at the Sept. 9 public hearings to comment before council takes final action.
