The Town of Iowa council voted unanimously on Jan. 13 to donate surplus chairs to the Iowa Calcasieu Council on Aging under Resolution 2025-01.
Julie Fontenot moved and Vernessa Guillory seconded the motion to approve the resolution donating approximately 53 chairs, which the town previously received from Grace Harbor Light House. The resolution cites Article VII, Section 14 of the Louisiana Constitution, which allows donation or exchange of surplus movable property between political subdivisions and social welfare programs. The motion passed unanimously.
The resolution authorizes Mayor Douglas N. Watkins to execute the Donation of Surplus Property on behalf of the town. Council members who voted in favor were Julie Fontenot, Vernessa Guillory, Gerald Guidry, Daniel Hennigan and Joe Becnel.
