Superintendent Stephens announces Aspiring Leaders Academy, welcomes new student teachers

Bartlett, Tenn. — Superintendent David A. Stephens used the Sept. 26 board meeting to update the board on outreach and recruitment efforts and to announce a new leadership-development program.
Stephens said he attended the Tennessee Department of Education/TOSS study council conference and spoke to the Bartlett Chamber of Commerce; he thanked Board Members Shirley Jackson and Brad Ratliff for attending chamber events. He reported a recent "lunch and learn/Appreciation luncheon" for new student teachers as a recruitment and orientation opportunity.
Stephens announced that Bartlett City Schools will start the BCS Aspiring Leaders Academy on Oct. 3; the program consists of seven meetings, runs through April and is intended to develop the next generation of school leaders. He said the academy cohort will attend a future board meeting to report on their work. Stephens also noted a Bartlett High School football game against Grenada scheduled for 6:00 p.m. the night of the meeting.
The superintendent's remarks were presented as updates to the board; no formal action was required on these items.
