Bartlett board approves tenure for seven teachers, multiple policies, calendar and a budget amendment

At its Sept. 26, 2024 meeting, the Bartlett City Board of Education approved tenure recommendations for seven teachers, enacted and read revised policies, adopted the 2025–26 instructional calendar, approved dual-credit and clinical affiliation agreements, and passed a budget amendment; one tenure-related resolution was removed from the agenda.
Bartlett, Tenn. — The Bartlett City Board of Education on Sept. 26 approved a package of personnel and administrative actions, including tenure for seven teachers, several policy updates, partnership agreements with higher-education institutions and a budget amendment.
The board unanimously (3–0 with two members absent) approved tenure recommendations read into the record by Dr. Chris Maley. The teachers named for tenure were Megan Fertig (Elmore Park Middle School), Cheryl Gipson (Bartlett High School), Joshua Leathers (Bartlett Elementary School), Melissa Marshall (Bartlett High Ninth Grade Academy), Bailey McAllister (Elmore Park Middle School), Patrick McDermott (Bon Lin Middle School) and Abbey Myrick (Appling Middle School). The board presented certificates to the tenured teachers.
Board members also completed a second reading and approval of revised Policy 5020 (Vacations and Holidays) and approved first readings of revised Policy 2015 (Purchasing) and revised Policy 4014 (Grading System). Each motion was moved by Ms. Erin Berry and seconded by Mr. Brad Ratliff and carried with recorded votes of Ms. Berry Aye, Mrs. Shirley Jackson Aye, and Mr. Ratliff Aye; Mr. David Cook and Bryan Woodruff were recorded as absent.
The board approved a Memorandum of Agreement to continue a dual-credit program with Southwest Tennessee Community College and approved a Clinical Experiences Affiliation Agreement with the University of Tennessee at Martin to support student clinical placements. The Bartlett City Schools 2025–2026 instructional calendar was adopted, and Resolution 12-3, a budget amendment, was passed.
Chairman Shirley Jackson removed Agenda item Resolution 12-4 (Tenure Charges) from the agenda before consideration; it was not discussed or voted on.
All recorded motions during the meeting were moved by Ms. Erin Berry and/or seconded by Mr. Brad Ratliff as indicated in the official minutes; each recorded vote showed three ayes and two absences. The meeting was held at the Bartlett City Schools auditorium; the minutes contain an internal timing inconsistency (the header lists a 5:00 p.m. start time, the call to order is recorded as 7:00 p.m., and the adjournment is recorded at 5:20 p.m.).
