Bartlett athletes, coaches and staff earn state and national honors at Aug. 22 board meeting

At its Aug. 22 meeting the Bartlett City Board of Education recognized student athletes, coaches and staff for recent state and national achievements.
The Bartlett Unified track and field team was honored as State Champions for the third straight year; the board presented certificates to the team’s named participants. The Unified program pairs students with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team to promote inclusion and teamwork.
Separately, four Bartlett athletes — Asia Bolden, Dior Carney, Jasmine McClelland and Peyton Miller — won the Nike National 4x200 and 4x100 relays, breaking school records en route to All‑American and national champion honors. Coaches Darrion Allen, Pamela Haley, Mirrakohl Johnson, Marvin Stewart and coach JaJa Nebo were recognized; Pamela Haley and others presented a Coach of the Year award to JaJa Nebo, and TSSAA selected Nebo for a Distinguished Service Award for 2023–24.
Jill Pierce, executive director of TETA, presented the 2024 Dr. Howard Sisco Chief Technology Officer Award to Joey Mitchell, Bartlett’s Technology Director; the award includes paid attendance at the Consortium for School Networking conference and entry in the national CTO award competition.
The board’s recognition of students and staff highlights recent competitive successes and district technology leadership. No public comment was recorded; the meeting proceeded to business items following recognitions.
