Hebron water reclamation superintendent reports system maintenance, smoke testing and planned ABW filter repair

Water Reclamation Superintendent Tom Coleman reported at the Village of Hebron Council meeting on May 8 that the plant has treated 102.326 million gallons so far in 2024 and outlined a series of near-term maintenance and testing steps.

Coleman said the department is continuing inflow and infiltration work and that Zemba Bros. returned March 11 to complete televising of lines, but the new software used to deliver video has complicated review by B&N. He said smoke testing is scheduled for August — possibly sooner — to identify illegal sanitary connections, and that resident notification procedures for NPDES testing are being discussed in light of recent flood-water impacts.

Coleman described seasonal operations: disinfection season runs May 1 through Oct. 31, the UV channel, post-aeration tanks and final clarifiers have been cleaned and UV bulbs installed, and staff are awaiting a schedule to clean drying beds and add new sand. He told council he would like to use Veolia to resolve an ABW filter issue; the firm is familiar with the village’s system, but Coleman said procurement timelines could delay repair. He estimated about four months to receive materials and roughly two to three weeks for installation once parts arrive.

Councilmembers congratulated Devin Adkins after Coleman said Adkins passed his Class I state exam and was added to the monthly/holiday rotation. Coleman also reported that Rite Rug installed new flooring in the Water Reclamation administration building, and that the company will return to correct remaining tile work; he said he has engaged Pelletier Cleaning to seal and wax the floor afterward.

Next steps: staff said smoke testing will proceed as scheduled unless earlier opportunities arise; the ABW filter repair will advance after procurement decisions and any necessary council approval for contracting.
