Dr. David A. Stephens, superintendent of Bartlett City Schools, told the Board on July 25 that the district has completed staff training and is prepared for the start of the 2024–25 school year. He said new teachers attended orientation earlier in the week, administrator in-service occurred the previous day and Capturing Kids Hearts training was scheduled at central office to continue staff preparation.
Dr. Stephens gave the calendar details included in the meeting materials: teachers report next Tuesday, a systemwide address will be held at Bartlett High School the following Wednesday at 9:00 a.m., “B Ready Day” is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 1, and the first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 8. He stated that teaching positions are fully staffed for the coming year.
During the superintendent’s report the Board introduced Dr. Chris Maley as the district’s new chief academic officer. The minutes record the introduction but do not include further biographical details or a speech from Dr. Maley.
Chairman David Cook also noted recent outreach and transition activities he has undertaken since becoming chair, including a July 2 interview with the Daily Memphian and meetings with the district chief financial officer as part of the chair transition.
The board accepted the June financial report for the record as part of routine business; detailed line-item financial statements were appended to the minutes for review.
