Bartlett City Schools board approves policy revisions, interagency MOUs, contracts and budget amendment

At its July 25 meeting the Bartlett City Board of Education approved a package of policy revisions on one reading, multiple memoranda of understanding with local agencies, contracts for special education and therapy services, a purchase of HVAC units for Bartlett High and a budget amendment. All motions passed with recorded ayes from the four members present.
The Bartlett City Board of Education on July 25 approved a package of policy changes, memoranda of understanding, service contracts, a five-year capital improvement plan and a budget amendment during a short business meeting at the Bartlett High School auditorium.
The Board voted to suspend the rules to allow first-reading policy revisions to be approved on one reading; the policies covered emergency preparedness, security, library materials, promotion and retention, grading, family life curriculum, physical assault leave, school admissions, admissions of suspended or expelled students, zero tolerance offenses, child abuse and neglect, visitors to the schools and a new Visitors Code of Conduct (Policies 3020, 3022, 4006, 4009, 4014, 4019, 5014.3, 6016, 6017, 6026, 6046, 6051 and 6057). The motion to suspend the rules and the subsequent motion to approve the consent agenda were moved by Bryan Woodruff and seconded by Erin Berry; the minutes record ayes from Erin Berry, David Cook, Shirley Jackson and Bryan Woodruff and an absence for Brad Ratliff.
The board approved several interagency agreements and contracts: a memorandum of understanding with TCAT Memphis; a memorandum between the City of Bartlett, the Bartlett Police Department and Bartlett City Schools; and an MOU with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office for school resource officers. The Board also approved an agreement for special education services with State Special Schools (including the Tennessee School for the Blind and Tennessee School for the Deaf), an ACES-TN contract, a contract with Stellar Therapy Services LLC, and the purchase and installation of three multi-zone HVAC units for Bartlett High School’s A building. Motions and seconds for these items and the recorded ayes appear in the minutes.
The Board adopted the 5-Year Bartlett City Schools Capital Improvement Plan and passed Resolution 12-1, a budget amendment. Resolution 12-1 was moved by Shirley Jackson and seconded by Bryan Woodruff; the motion carried with the same recorded votes (four ayes, one absent).
