Staff announced that Caitlin has been promoted to senior planner; a staff member praised her work, saying she has been “crushing it and doing great.” The department also previewed multiple large proposals: a Mogul pre-application on the Kudar property described as roughly 170,000 square feet that would include a 70-key hotel, about 32 condos and affordable housing; the Arts District concept (about 50,000 square feet of short-term rentals); the Pearl Residences pre-application (roughly 100,000 square feet); and a Meadowlark Lane pre-application (about 90,000 square feet).
Commissioners spent an extended period discussing a previously approved conditional use permit for the fairgrounds Exhibit Hall. The chair said organized parking approved with that CUP had not been implemented and described chaotic parking at a recent event: "There was supposed to be parking," the chair said, noting cars and pedestrians were at risk when parking was not organized as expected. Commissioners discussed options including coordinating with the county and the fair office, potential council follow-up and taking a site visit to observe conditions in person.
No formal action was taken on the pre-applications at this meeting; staff said the commission will see formal applications as projects move forward and encouraged commissioners to participate in scheduled meetings through September.
