The Norwalk Planning and Zoning Commission approved façade and exterior modifications July 1 for 216 East Avenue, a former service station being updated as part of a retail conversion in the East Norwalk Village Design District.
Attorney Daniel Glistman, representing AMG Real Estate LLC, said the project includes a refreshed façade, new striping, and a rear fence to clarify property lines and shield a parking area. He confirmed the applicant will comply with peer‑review and staff conditions, including a submitted landscaping plan and minor signage adjustments.
Commissioners asked whether the project would alter sidewalks or curb cuts near the train station; staff and the applicant said no changes to pedestrian infrastructure are proposed because the work is an adaptive reuse of the existing structure. Commissioners expressed concern about the corridor’s pedestrian safety and encouraged staff to coordinate with state and corridor improvement projects.
The commission voted unanimously to approve the site plan review and associated design conditions; staff noted similar future projects in the village district will be subject to updated design‑guideline work the city expects to procure later in the year.
