Hinsdale board hears police staffing update, DPW work and a statewide lead survey mandate

The Hinsdale Select Board on April 22 discussed the status of town police staffing after the District Attorney’s Office cleared involved officers and received operational updates from the Department of Public Works.
Select Board member Ray Huntoon asked for an update after the DA review. Town Administrator Bob Graves said Sergeant Crupit is on medical leave and will require medical clearance before returning. Graves added that two other officers had not yet told him whether they intended to return and said any reinstatement would require re-evaluation and training, a psychological assessment and a medical exam.
DPW Superintendent James Callahan reported the blacktop plant has reopened, flow sensors will be installed next week, filters have been cleaned and roads are being graded. Callahan said detour signs are posted on Schnopp Road and that Western Earthworks expects work on Schnopp Road to be completed by the end of June. He also reported three sewer calls occurred on the previous Monday.
Town Administrator Graves said he is finalizing one-year police contracts, submitted quarterly reports to the MassWorks program for Schnopp Road and filed a grant application for New Windsor Road. Graves warned that the state requires a Lead and Copper survey and that the town must secure 100% submission from residents; the town will send the survey again.
Under other business Select Board member Bart Collins raised concerns about wide cracks near the recycling area at the transfer station. Graves said he will review contracts with vendors Maxymillian and Mike Kulig to determine responsibility for repairs.
The board did not take any formal votes on staffing, contracts or the transfer station during the meeting. The session concluded with unanimous approval of consent items and adjournment at 7:12 p.m.
