Town department heads provided routine operational updates at the Jonesboro Board of Aldermen meeting on Sept. 10.
Austin Ballott, compliance lead, and Fire Chief Aaron Blalock reported that the old funeral home will be burned on Sept. 16, 2024 at 6 p.m. Fire staff recorded 73 emergency calls for the reporting period. Public Works Director Warren Bradley said 280 sandbags are available to the public, noted 22 water leaks in July, and reported that the streets crew has begun installing Christmas lights for the season. Police Chief Smith reported 235 total calls for the reporting period, including 94 emergency calls and 10 animal-related calls.
Council acted on several routine agenda items during the same meeting, including tabling July and August financial approvals and removing a nuisance-abatement item for 207 Vinson Street from the agenda. Mrs. Monica Taylor raised concerns about the town's compliance with the open meetings law during the public-comment period; the minutes do not record an official response.
The meeting adjourned after brief council remarks and thanks. Residents seeking more information on the controlled burn, sandbag pickup locations or the police/fire statistics should contact the appropriate town department or consult published minutes.
