Council hears FEP concerns about erosion and drainage at LaPointe Drive

Flood and emergency planning issues at LaPointe Drain drew discussion during the Feb. 12 meeting of the Luna Pier City Council.
Representatives of the Flood/Emergency Planning committee told the council their main concern is erosion at the end of LaPointe Drive near LaPointe Drain and that they plan to bring in contractors to assess and recommend wall repairs. Committee members discussed the feasibility of opening the flood gate, dredging the drain, and creating a channel to improve outflow.
Mayor James Gardner reiterated flood-safety tips for residents who live in the flood plain and noted the city is monitoring the situation. The council did not take a formal vote on a remediation plan during the meeting; contractors are expected to assess options and return recommendations to the council or appropriate committee.
