Council flags Lakeside development for engineering standards; Fire Hall roof bids received

Mayor Gardner said a pre-planning meeting for the Lakeside Development, attended by representatives including Lucarelli and staff from Planning, the DDA and the Building Office, indicated the project must meet engineering standards and that parking will be an issue. Councilmember Neil Wakeman said additional clarifications are needed to ensure standard building practices and codes are followed.
Public works issues: the mayor said the Monroe County Road Commission cannot supply road salt this season, but the Department of Public Works reported it has enough salt to meet the city’s current needs. The city also plans to issue a request for qualifications (RFQ) for waste-disposal/trash collection services.
Facilities and safety: the Building Office reported six bids to repair the Fire Hall roof and recommended using R-30 insulation; Chief Dinius will review the proposals and present a recommendation to council. Contractors will need a three-day period of roughly 40-degree weather to complete the work. Council also noted that lighthouse bathroom upgrades are limited to off-season timing.
Department reports included that the Fire Department responded to 205 calls in 2025, down from 260 in 2024, and that the department continues to offer free smoke alarms and carbon-monoxide detectors as well as a bed-shaking alert device for residents who are hard of hearing.
