Hoosac Valley Regional accepts $30,000 in donations for high school outdoor classroom

The Hoosac Valley Regional School Committee unanimously voted to accept $30,000 in donations to build a timber-frame outdoor classroom at Hoosac Valley High School.
The funds consist of $20,000 from the Barrett Foundation and $10,000 from Specialty Minerals and were approved with the stipulation that they be used for the intended project. The initiative will provide hands-on learning opportunities: most of the construction labor will be performed by students under supervision, with alumni volunteers contributing expertise. Alumni Jack Soban completed the architectural drawings and Matt Tassone will assist with construction and instruction.
The committee scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for April 15 at 12:45 p.m., with a rain date of April 16. The administration confirmed representatives from the donor organizations will attend the ceremony.
