Juanita G. Woods was elected chair of the Monroe City Council and Rodney McFarland was chosen vice-chairman in unanimous votes at the council’s July 9 meeting. The nominations were made from the floor and there were no other nominees.
The leadership change followed roll call and an invocation. Outgoing Chair Gretchen Ezernack thanked colleagues for her year of service and welcomed Woods and McFarland. Woods said she intends to listen to constituents and run “meetings [that] are going to be decent and in order,” and announced a community “Chat & Chew” meeting for July 17 at Powell Street Recreation Center to solicit resident concerns.
The council then proceeded with its agenda, approving routine resolutions and taking up a series of infrastructure and administrative items. The leadership vote was recorded without dissent.
