City will proclaim National Donate Life Month after local organizer’s presentation

Ashley Davis, a community educator who identified herself with LOPA, told the council her work on donor education is rooted in family experience and urged the city to proclaim National Donate Life Month. Davis described how organ and tissue donation can touch many lives and shared local stories of donors and recipients, including the first organ donor from Minden Medical.
The mayor announced the council would present a formal proclamation and noted a planned flag‑raising at Minden Medical on Wednesday to honor donor families. Davis encouraged residents to discuss donation wishes with family and noted LOPA’s outreach in schools and driver‑education programs.
Separately, Sarah Braw, Main Street economic director, updated the council on local events and promotions: the farmers market will run Saturdays this spring into summer; “Love the Boot Week” is scheduled for the 18th–26th; and a 190th city celebration is planned June 11–13 with free hot dogs, music and fireworks. Braw asked council members to support neighborhood activities and offered promotional notepads and maps to help visitors and businesses.
The council did not take formal votes on proclamations during the presentation, but the mayor said the proclamation would be issued later in the meeting and staff would coordinate the flag‑raising and related outreach.
