Stockbridge council approves bills, road closures, park mural and zoning text amendment

The Village of Stockbridge Council approved several administrative and routine items at its April 16 meeting, including payment of bills, event road closures, a park mural and zoning text changes.

On a roll-call motion, council authorized payment of bills totaling $69,496.76. Council voted to delay hiring a temporary seasonal Department of Public Works worker. The council approved listed road closures for community events — including the All Clubs Ride, a Positively Chiropractic 5K and "A Day in The Village" — by voice vote.

Council approved artwork and painting for the playground at Veteran’s Park and voted to amend section (4) of Ordinance No. 2024-04-001.004 to permit sale of an alley by private sale; the ordinance amendment roll call recorded ayes from Cattell, Howlett, Morehouse, Connolly, McManaman and Ogden; Fairbotham was absent. After a public hearing the council adopted text amendments to the zoning ordinance addressing bars and lounges in the central business district and the C-2 business district; roll call recorded ayes from Howlett, Cattell, McManaman, Connolly, Morehouse and Ogden.

Council members used their comments to reflect on the special assessment discussion: Morehouse and Howlett said they supported police authority and hoped taxes would decline; Connolly and Cattell said they believed or hoped the assessment would be one-time. The meeting concluded with Attorney John Gormley answering public questions, announcements about upcoming SDDA, Utilities Committee and Planning Commission meetings, and adjournment at 8:58 p.m.
