Hoosac Valley Regional School Committee approves Savoy tuition renewal; recognizes retirees

The Hoosac Valley Regional School Committee on April 27 approved a renewal of the Savoy tuition agreement that extends tuition coverage to grade 6 and continues the district’s historical 4% annual tuition increase. The motion, moved by Adam Emerson and seconded by Jen Solak, passed with six votes in favor and one abstention from Tracey Tierney.

The superintendent presented the proposed agreement, noting the district’s practice of applying a 4% annual tuition increase to the Savoy arrangement. The committee did not record additional amendments to the agreement during the meeting. The board’s approval requires the district to implement the updated tuition schedule for the next school year per the terms presented.

The meeting also produced several unanimous decisions. On a motion by Fred Lora with a second from Jen Solak, the committee voted to recognize three retirees at the 2026 graduation and present them with a token of appreciation. Earlier the committee had unanimously instructed the superintendent to draft a letter inviting the Fire Marshal’s parents to attend events during an upcoming Fire Marshal visit that will include grade 6–12 presentations and building walkthroughs. The committee also voted unanimously to approve the March 23, 2026 minutes.

Committee members debated calendar logistics elsewhere on the agenda: the superintendent advised against combining the district’s budget presentation with town meetings, and the committee agreed to keep school committee budget presentations separate while seeking ways to encourage greater public attendance. The committee instructed staff to change the December meeting date to Dec. 14, 2026.

The meeting concluded with acknowledgments by the chair and a motion to adjourn at 7:58 p.m., which passed unanimously.
