Minden council accepts March financials; fire and police give monthly reports

MINDEN — At the May 4 council meeting Minden city officials reviewed routine financial and public-safety reports and recognized local civic involvement.
City Clerk Malaney Slack presented the March 2026 budget report and said that February 2026 sales tax collections (excluding TIF districts) totaled $702,038.89 compared with $662,515 in February 2025, a 5.97% increase; delinquent payments for the city totaled $30,534 as shown in the provided report. The council had no questions and accepted the report as presented.
Assistant Fire Chief Ronnie Serene reported April fire-department activity: four structure fires, one vehicle fire, 10 miscellaneous fires, three public-service calls, three rescue calls, one hazmat-related call, 10 false alarms and four fire alarms, totaling 36 calls for April. The department is awaiting a field visit date from an evaluator (PIL) to complete a rating.
Deputy Chief Taka Harrison reported police activity for April including 87 arrests and a range of citations and calls for service; the transcript lists other incident counts as recorded in the department’s report. The council moved to accept the police report for March 2026 and the motion carried unanimously.
In council comments, Councilman Miles thanked organizers and sponsors of an Autism Acceptance Walk held during the past month, saying the event drew more than 300 participants. The presiding officer also recognized the newly certified municipal clerk and the council adjourned.
