Beecher trustees approve temporary waiver allowing Romex in four Lennar homes; future builds must use conduit

The Village of Beecher Board of Trustees on Sept. 15 approved a waiver permitting Lennar Construction to use Romex wiring in a model home and three homes then under construction in the Hunter's Chase Subdivision, while requiring conduit for all future builds to comply with village code.
The Village Attorney recommended approval of the limited waiver, and the board moved directly to a vote after discussion. Trustee Stacey moved to approve the waiver; Trustee Smith seconded. The motion passed 5-1. The trustees voting aye were Smith, Kraus, Diachenko, Stacey and Gardner; Trustee Tieri voted no.
Minutes state Lennar had paused construction while the waiver was pending and committed to using conduit on future homes to remain compliant with the Village of Beecher’s code. Several trustees raised concerns that inspections performed by Safebuilt should have failed earlier because of Lennar's non-compliance; the minutes note a Zoom meeting with Safebuilt the prior week to address inspection-related issues.
There were no recorded amendments to the motion. With no further business, President Meyer called for adjournment; Trustee Gardner moved to adjourn, Trustee Stacey seconded, and the board voted unanimously to adjourn. The meeting opened at 7:00 p.m. and adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
