Bridgman council approves grants and agreements, sets hearing for industrial district and tables mobile food ordinance

On June 8 the Bridgman City Council approved a $50,000 design contract for the Weko Beach boardwalk, authorized a special event alley closure for Lake Time Brewing, approved applying for a $5,000 Heart of Cook rain garden grant (with $5,000 match), set a July 13 public hearing for an industrial development district at 9864 Church St., and tabled first reading of a mobile food vendor ordinance until July 13.
The Bridgman City Council, meeting June 8, approved several consent agenda items and took additional actions on matters ranging from grant applications to scheduling future hearings.
Among the consent items approved were: authorization for a $50,000 Professional Services Agreement with Abonmarche Consultants for engineering planning and design of the Weko Beach boardwalk renovation (Item 8E); conditional approval of a special events application allowing Lake Time Brewing LLC to close an alley west of the Celebrate Bridgman area to Maple Street for its July 11 event (Item 8H); and establishing the city millage rate and adopting the FY2027 budget (Item 8J).
Council approved applying for a $5,000 Heart of Cook grant to fund a Rain Garden Pilot Program, with a required $5,000 city match; the council discussed homeowner outreach and planned educational support from an environmental specialist at PEZO. Mayor Jan Trapani moved to set a public hearing for establishing an Industrial Development District at 9864 Church Street on July 13, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.; the motion carried. Council discussed Ordinance 2026-226, which would regulate mobile food vendors, and requested additional information on fee structures from City Manager Lambrix and the City Attorney; Item 8I was tabled to the July 13 meeting.
During the hearing-of-citizens period, resident Matt Yeske of 4615 Lake Street urged the council to consider new playground equipment at Weko Beach. The meeting also included routine departmental reports; staff noted the water tower project was completed ahead of schedule and the City Manager introduced Micah Baggett as incoming Fire Chief effective July 1, 2026. The council adjourned at 7:07 p.m.
