Bridgman planning commission reviews draft Master Plan, requests edits and timeline

Building/Zoning Official Mattner presented a draft Master Plan and the Bridgman City Planning Commission spent the meeting identifying needed corrections and clarifications. Commissioners raised a sequence of technical and editorial changes intended to make the document suitable for referral to the City Council.

Commissioners asked whether the plan should be dated 2025, when review began, or 2026, when it will be finalized. The commission requested that Mattner add the survey results to the outreach section, include maps showing the city’s drainage districts, and update photos to reflect current schools, businesses and public spaces. Commissioners also requested that various graphs and maps be updated with current data, including the latest census information and social district boundaries.

Several members recommended moving the goals from the end of the draft into an earlier chapter so they are more prominent. The commission also asked that the public safety personnel table include an explicit "as of" date to clarify the timeframe for staffing levels and related data.

Mattner told the commission he will continue working with consultant Williams & Works to produce an updated draft and will present it at the July meeting. He will also compile a timeline of the final steps the commission will need to complete before forwarding the plan to the City Council for consideration.

The commission took no formal action to adopt the plan at the June 18 meeting; the item remains under commission review pending the updated draft and timeline.
