Minocqua board supports DNR acquisition of Tomahawk River parcels; one supervisor votes no

The Minocqua Board of Supervisors approved a resolution May 5 supporting the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ acquisition of two parcels (Parcels MI-1083 and MI-1086) totaling approximately 77 acres within the Willow Flowage Scenic Waters and the upper Tomahawk River corridor.
Chairman Mark Hartzheim said the acquisition would extend public access along Camp Nine Road to the Willow Flowage and provide natural protection for wildlife habitat. Board members discussed local access and asked the DNR to consider off-road parking to provide safer public entry. Fire Chief Rich Carani asked that the resolution explicitly reference coordination on the site designated for a dry hydrant and requested that the DNR work with the town and local clubs (snowmobile and ATV/UTV) as needed to preserve motorized route use along public roadways.
Supervisor Billy Fried moved to approve the resolution and Supervisor Erika Petersen seconded; the voice vote carried and Supervisor Brian Fricke was recorded as voting nay.
The resolution supports the DNR’s stated conservation and public-access aims, while asking the agency to coordinate with town officials and local clubs about parking and route use and to account for the fire-rescue dry hydrant location. The action is advisory support from the town; any acquisition and property management will be subject to DNR processes and any required county or state approvals.
