The clerk read the agenda item as a conference with the city’s labor negotiator to consider instructions related to negotiations with SEIU Local 620 representing both supervisory and hourly Santa Barbara city employees. The agenda identified John H.Bucket Bakit as the city negotiator for the discussion.
“The council is going to adjourn to closed session. We don't anticipate reporting out and we'll reconvene at 2:00,” the presiding official said as the council moved into closed session. The meeting recessed immediately; no vote on the matter was recorded in the public minutes during the special session.
Closed sessions under Government Code section 54957.6 are used for instructions to city negotiators in labor matters and are exempt from public disclosure until a report is made or negotiations conclude. The council indicated it did not expect to report back publicly following the closed session and scheduled a public reconvening for 2:00 p.m.
