Administrators said the handbook revisions mainly consolidate and clarify existing language, add an explicit academic honesty statement at the high-school level and add clearer options for students to make up absences. They told trustees the academic-dishonesty language formalizes practices already in use so staff and families can reference expectations in writing.
On bullying policy, staff said the State Department recommended technical clarifications that OSSBA adapted for districts statewide. Revisions define isolated actions versus bullying, designate building principals as site bullying-incident coordinators who notify the superintendent of findings, formalize annual safe-schools committee review, and add non-retaliation language protecting students who report in good faith.
Trustees discussed the changes and approved the handbook and policy updates by roll-call vote.
