Board clears encumbrances and approves capital purchases including bleachers and safety upgrades

The Bethany Public Schools Board approved a slate of encumbrances and change orders covering capital projects and year-ahead blanket purchase orders.
Administrators highlighted several large items: a PO to install opposing-side bleachers at the track so home and visiting spectators no longer intermingle; funds donated to revamp the high school entrance and conference room with a redesigned secure vestibule and bulletproof glass; purchase of a lift for routine facility work after years of borrowing from partners; and final desk purchases at the high school to complete a multi-year replacement plan.
Trustees discussed timing concerns — particularly long lead times for bulletproof glass — and whether some projects would be completed before school starts. Administration said some work may be substantially complete before classes begin but cautioned glass delivery could delay final completion.
The board moved and approved the encumbrances and change orders by roll call. The approval included both one-time capital POs and a broad set of blanket POs to operate the district during FY27.
