Local youth programs report summer activities; Timber Bay plans expansion

Representatives of community youth programs reported on summer schedules, volunteer support and outreach at the Sawyer County CJCC meeting on June 10.
A Timber Bay organizer described weekly meetings, outdoor activities, canoe trips and mentor matches. The organizer said the program averages nine to 10 children per Wednesday night, has roughly 17–18 children engaged at some level, and is funded by local businesses, churches and individual donors so activities are free for children who cannot pay. “We develop trust with them through doing that,” the organizer said, describing outdoor activities and one-on-one mentor relationships as central to the program’s approach.
Members noted successful volunteer recruitment and two upcoming canoe trips and other excursions. The organizer said growth could require a move out of the current meeting house by this time next year. Council members also praised the library’s summer reading and adult programming as important supports for families while school is out.
No formal council actions were taken; the community reports were shared for information and coordination.
