Cromwell planning commission schedules hearing on alcohol permit at 77 Berlin Road; another permit withdrawn

The Town of Cromwell Planning & Zoning Commission on May 5 voted to place Application #26-16, a special permit for the sale of alcohol at 77 Berlin Road, on the commission’s public hearing calendar for June 2, 2026. The motion to accept and schedule the application was made by Vice Chair Michael Cannata and seconded by Commissioner Andrew Holt; all members present voted in favor.
At the same meeting the commission closed a public hearing on Application #26-12, a proposed special permit for alcohol sales at 72 West Street, after the applicant asked to withdraw the filing. Andrew J. Armstrong, Cromwell’s director of planning and development, told the commission the application would have been denied under the town’s distance regulations because the proposed store is less than 500 feet from a church. The commission accepted the withdrawal by motion, which passed unanimously.
The commission’s action to schedule the 77 Berlin Road hearing means the application will be considered publicly on June 2; notice and an opportunity for public comment will follow the town’s hearing procedures. The withdrawal of the 72 West Street application closes that docketed request without a hearing or a commission decision on the merits.
