Beaufort County HAC welcomes student members; one applicant removed for living outside county

Chair Amy Prior said Academic Committee approved three prospective HAC members: two current Beaufort County students (one student‑body president and a junior) and a district teacher. "Exciting is the first two people mentioned on the chart are current students for Beaufort County School District," Prior said, noting the committee will welcome those student representatives at future meetings.
The committee also acknowledged one otherwise‑qualified applicant was removed because she lives in Jasper County and the HAC bylaws require members to reside in Beaufort County. "Our bylaws specifically say that they have to live within Beaufort County," Prior said, explaining the procedural reason for disqualification.
During the meeting, Tim Pierce moved to approve the agenda with a correction to the minutes date and later moved approval of the November 17 minutes; Wanda Glaze seconded the motions. The committee voted unanimously in favor of approving the agenda and the minutes as amended.
Members discussed presenting the new names at the board meeting on March 3 and agreed to aim to bring the nominees forward in that timeframe while coordinating with the new PE/health coordinator’s schedule. The committee set March 30 as the next HAC meeting and planned to include the course review and introductions of new members on that agenda.
No policy changes were made at the meeting; the committee’s decisions were procedural and concerned membership and scheduling.
