The Accommodations and Tax Advisory Committee voted to award a $25,000 accommodations-tax grant to the Rotary Club of Bluffton for the organization’s 2026 Mayfest.
Mary O'Neil, vice president of the Rotary Club of Bluffton, told the committee the event has run for more than four decades and that proceeds fund the club’s charitable grants. The committee questioned apparent discrepancies in the application budget; O'Neil said the correct event revenue figure is about $77,000 and that the application’s lower total was a form-filling mistake.
A staff member reporting the quarter’s finances said $346,809 was available for distribution, including $265,955 in state collections for the quarter ending Dec. 31. That funding level, committee members said, allowed them to consider the Rotary request without delaying other allocations.
Ellen Shoemaker moved to approve the Rotary Club’s $25,000 request; the motion was seconded and the committee voted 4-0 in favor. The committee did not attach additional conditions to the award.
The committee’s approval follows questions about the application form and budgeting details; members asked applicants to ensure line-item accuracy on future submissions. The committee adjourned after completing the meeting agenda.
